Community speaks out about ICE detainment in Saratoga Springs at City Council meeting.

“ICE was in our city this morning and disappeared several people, friends, family members, and coworkers. Some people don’t know where their loved ones are and if/when they will see them again. They were abducted by men who are not in uniforms, and their faces are covered,” [Hollyday] Hammond said [during public comment at the July 15 City Council meeting]. “I want to know from all the City Council members and the mayor, are you okay with this? I don’t want to hear what’s legal, because that doesn’t mean a whole lot anymore. We often know laws are wrong, morally or ethically wrong. Do you think it’s okay for people to be disappeared by individuals who are masked, disguised and also without warning?”

Members of the Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee shared a statement from the committee regarding “preventing and mitigating unconstitutional deportations,” which they noted [Public Safety Commissioner Tim] Coll helped advise and draft. The statement included both Local Action Recommendations as well as Federal Recommendations, and can be read in its entirety as part of the Democratic Committee’s platform on its website.
