Candidates in each local race were asked to introduce themselves, say why they are running, describe the biggest issues facing the city and what they would do in their first 100 days in office. Paywall free links to all completed questionnaires are below; please read to confirm your decisions about the best person for each office.
Example question, from Mayoral candidates Michele Madigan and John Safford: Why did you want to run for this position? Madigan: “My top priorities are housing, homelessness, infrastructure and restoring trust in city government. Saratoga needs a Building and Planning Department that works for people — not against them. I’ll launch an independent audit to understand why some permits and Certificates of Occupancy take years while others are issued in weeks. We must streamline processes, improve customer service, and increase transparency.
“Housing and homelessness must be addressed together. I’ll champion affordable and workforce housing through state and local partnerships, incentives, and smart development that fits Saratoga’s character. At the same time, I’ll make homelessness a citywide priority — supporting the RISE low-barrier shelter and the Homeless Outreach Court, and identifying a prominent, permanent location for a low-barrier shelter so that no one is left unsheltered in our community.”
Safford: “Beginning as an Army Officer during Vietnam, I have a long history of serving others. My motivation for Mayor is just an additional way to do just that, by serving the city I have come to love.”
