At its most recent meeting, the Saratoga Springs City Council unanimously passed a resolution expressing its appreciation to Congressman Paul Tonko for his “continued efforts to oversee the well-being of his constituents and to exercise appropriate lawful oversight of the operations at the Batavia detention facility.”
Via the resolution, the council also called upon the Federal Department of Homeland Security to “immediately comply with applicable Federal statutes, including Section 527 of the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, providing for access by Members of Congress wishing to ascertain the agency’s compliance with law and best practices in its operations.
“We have 28,000 people who were responsible for, and there are people who are getting ripped off the streets,” Accounts Commissioner Dillon Moran, who introduced the resolution, said. “There are members of the community at Division Street School, at Lake Avenue School, that have been impacted by this, and we don’t have anything to do. We can’t do anything in response, but we can do things like this (the resolution).”
