Mayor Ron Kim

Ron has deep roots in our community – he’s proudly raised a family here in the city with his wife, Jennie.

Ron has a deep commitment to service to our city  – being elected and serving as Commissioner of Public Safety for two terms; and serving on the Saratoga Springs Zoning Board of Appeals as a member and as Chairperson.

Ron has a deep commitment of service to others – leading major non-profits such as the environmental advocacy organization EarthShare, and the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern NY; and working as a consumer protection and civil rights attorney.

As he campaigns for re-election in 2023, Ron is following through on his commitments to our community:

  • Strengthening public safety and accountability by moving the Civilian Review Board forward, supporting diversified recruitment, and building the East Side EMS/fire station.

  • Expanding affordable housing and tackling homelessness by helping secure a $2.4 million grant for unhoused services, overseeing workforce housing development, and establishing a diverse Task Force on Homelessness to find a permanent shelter to get people off the street.

  • Taking action to address climate change by reducing the city’s carbon footprint, moving forward with the Complete Streets plan to make the city more walkable and bikeable, and preserving the Greenbelt.

  • Repairing our city’s crumbling infrastructure through making capital investments, securing grants, and beginning steps to reduce truck traffic on Broadway.

  • Building community and inclusivity through diversifying city staff, investing in arts and nonprofit programming, and naming a poet laureate.

  • Increasing transparency in government, including requesting formal investigations into the death of Darryl Mount and the unauthorized political use of residents’ email address by former officials, and extending public comment at council meetings.
