As a lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Paul Tonko is uniquely qualified to represent it in congress. He knows its people and its issues first-hand. After having graduated from Amsterdam Highschool, Paul received a degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Clarkson University. Tonko’s made much use of this technical expertise, having served as the Chair of Energy Committee during his 24 years in the New York Assembly and as the President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
In 2009, Tonko won election to the U.S. House. As a congressperson, Paul has secured hundreds of millions in funding for local employers like Schenectady based General Electric and Malta based Global Foundries, championed Green Energy, protecting the Hudson-Mohawk river basin, implementing common sense gun reform, and expanding access to health care. But Tonko isn’t just a Democrat, he’s an independent voice. When it became clear the Obama Administration’s proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership would put American manufacturing jobs at risk, outsourcing production to countries which use child-labor, Tonko stood strong in opposition to the trade deal.
Congressperson Paul Tonko is a proven advocate for the Capital Region. His expertise and experience is unparalleled.
