Jason Golub, the city’s commissioner of public works, announced on Monday that he will be stepping down from his position to become the counsel and deputy commissioner of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision — a move that has both city political parties scrambling to find a candidate to replace him. As first reported by WAMC, Golub told the City Council at its pre-agenda meeting on Monday, saying that he was told by the governor’s office he could not stay in his elected position. Golub will depart Friday, Aug. 16, and begin his new role the following Monday, Aug. 19. That leaves the City Council with the task of appointing a new commissioner, a move that has the chairs of both the city’s Democratic and Republican committees considering potential candidates to put forward to complete the remaining 16 months of Golub’s two-year term.
